Chipping The Right Way In Golf and How To Do It
Chipping,
pitching or putting? What should you do to make your shots better? And we are
just getting started with the techniques in golf to make it to the hole. Golf is
about efficiency and strategizing. How do you reach your goal using the best
tool and best method? We just don’t hit the golf stick the same way in every
situation. Every ground is different, every obstacle is different. And that is
why we need to strategize effectively and use the golf club, which will bring
us closer to the target hole. But for now, we are going to focus on chipping.
What is it actually and why are golfers advised on favoring chipping over
pitching? We shall know it all in a while.
And what
all helps us to make us closer to the target? The right golf sticks along with
the right method. If you feel that your methods are right but it is not

Here are
the things you need to know about chipping:
Chipping To The Greens
Chip shots
are played when one is close to the greens. While on greens, one might be using
putters to get to the target. However, when there are obstacles that can hinder
puttering, then you need to make a chip shot. Usually, these shots are made
using a wedge. While golfers can make a chip shot using any club, they mostly
prefer 7-irons or 8-irons to make it better. Chippings are usually a part of
the short game.
Chipping
v/s Pitching
The only
similarity between these two methods is that they both lift the ball in the
air. The difference is that while pitching, the ball stays up longer and covers
shorter distance rolling on the ground. And in chipping, the ball stays up for a
shorter amount of time and covers more
distance rolling on the ground. Pitch shots are more useful when greens are far
beyond. Chipping is useful when greens are closer by.
In Summary
Most of
your shots should be putting, which favors
more rolling on the ground than bouncing off.
Go for the chip and run shot wherever possible and keep pitch shots to a
minimum or wherever necessary. Chip and
run where you can’t putt and pitch when you can’t do either of them. Take your putter
grips and wedge whenever necessary.
These are
the things that will keep you on track with golf and with chipping. There are
more methods to chipping such as 6-8-10 method, 7-8-9 method, and so on. We
will get back to it later. For now, practice these on the golf course for
better results. Get your putter grips ready along with wedges and irons.
